This was actually the first producer I drank when my interest started for German wine in general. The Rieslaner BA especially from Gimmeldinger Schlössel has always had a special place in my heart. This summer in Berlin (visiting Martin Barz - www.berlinkitchen.com) we had the magic 2001 the last vintage where Hans Günther Swartz still was the magician at the estate. I have always felt that afterwards there wines has been a little level below, but I have to say that this wine is magic. Maybe Müller-Catoir is back?The wine is like cold fusion energy in the mouth and brain just sparkling with its tropical fruit compote and really icing acid. There is taste of the botrytis and creamy honey that complement the tropical fruit and blackcurrant tones great in the driven layer of the wine.
Its texture is very dense and creamy – but its the acidity that really lift the wine and safe the wine so that it does not
feel heavy and fatty. The potential for this wine huge!
