SCHLOSS JOHANNISBERG, KABINETT, ROTTLACK, RHEINGAU, 2007

The noise has a nice touch of pineapple combined with weak tones of yeast. Over time the pineapple goes into the background and instead the wines get notes of lime, orange and grapefruit.
In the taste it seems a little heavy (special if considered the cabinett predicate) with fruit nuances of pineapple (again) and citric fruit. Unfortunately it’s also has a bad tone of dishcloth.
This wine comes for sure from the lower part of Johannisberg parcel – the sand and limestone minerality is really notice in the background in the wines (versus the upper part which has more quartz stone in the underground). The finish is short and not to complex with bitter pectin nuances. Really a delicious juicy acidity that moves the wine in the right directions. Clearly this is money machine of the producers and not their prestige project – still I had hoped that a producer like Schloss Johannisberg could project there potential into their standard cuvees.
This disappointment has anyhow not made me less interest in their top cuvee.
