WEINGUT KELLER, KIRCHSPIEL, GG, 2007

Klaus Peter Keller just send me this picture of the vines and grapes in Kirchspiel before harvest 2008 - and it immediately trickert my mind ending up in that I wanted to taste the GG wine from Kirchspiel (from the grandiose year 2007).

After having the wine open for a week – it finally starts to open up from its tight core and it really warms and strikes my heart (I still feel it will develop with air)? I have been follow this wine from vintage 2004 to now 2007 and it is clear that quality keeps improving every year – this year of course ridding on the brilliant vintage.
The nose is what a define as “classic” Keller nose – its initiates a neural puzzles in my brain reminding me of the lovely memories I have had with Kellers top wines including the amazing evening with Klaus Peter and Julia this spring having a barbeque (Fresh fish flown in from Norway just some hours before the tasting) and tasting the entire collection from 2007+ others wine (eg. The Hubacker 1953)……..The nose is a little shy however having smell of mandarin, golden delicious apples and a little touch of soft mature “clara fris” pear in the primary layer. In the secondary layer one feels herbs, the minerality combined with traces of sulfur. I simply love this complex impression….
The taste of the wine is really intense and extremely complex. Initial it has strenuous limed bitterness – which is paired to a dominati
ng electric acid. However after the initial impression the wine evolves non-linear ending up in an almost explosive long mineral finish which all the way is followed by the acid. In the cores of the wine simmers a cool and shy citric and apricots fruit which finalizes this master piece. In my mind a mind blowing wine.

This is for sure not a broad appealing wine – but for riesling fanatics like me (who is a mineral and acid junkie) its takes me close to paradise. Knowing Klaus Peter and Julia I am sure that it will make them happy.
