WEINGUT KELLER, HUBACKER, GG, RHEINHESSEN, 2005

I actually believed up front that this wine would have been hermetic closed as many of the others ’05 I have tasted during the last half year – however it should turn out to be completely wrong (although I strongly believe that the wine will be even better with time). I simply love this nose – it starts a neural journey from my brain against my hart – it is simply just “wonderland” for me…. In the nose one smells over mature orange fruit, mainly mandarin combined with a lot of blue and lime stones in the secondary layer. In the mouth the wine turns out to be exactly as I remember it with its orange opulent fruit (mainly mandarin). In the creamy layer underneath the primary fruit there are nuances of tobacco, pectin and herbs. There is just a touch of sugar in the taste, without disturbing the overall impression – but on the contrary it creates the balance in the wine (especially to the Christmas food we had to the wine this time). The thing that makes this wine so phenomenal is its theatrical composition starting out with its primary dancing and playing easy-drinking fruit that develops non-linear to a dim, bitter, strenuous and hurting mineral finish. Extremely complex and a crazy long finish with bitterness components sticking inside your mouth. Its like the battle between goodness and evil.,.. Although this wine and vintage means everything to me (as it was the wine that initial open my eyes for German dry wine) – I have to say that the ’07 is just a level above (just more mineral, acid driven and complete). However the ’05 should be interesting to follow the next couple of years when the primary fruit is tuned down a little… - then I think it will be a real potent stuff....

The wine gets ½ point more for potential!
