WEINGUT KELLER, RR TROCKEN, RHEINHESSEN, 2008

This wine is always a wine full of surprises – in 2005 I remember it as a fantastic wine and I compared it to GG wines from other top estates. In 2006 I initial judge it out – it simply didn’t fit my style (and thought something was wrong), but then during the summer I had a bt. standing open (of course with a cork on it) in the refrigerator for a more than a month (due to vacation) – and when I finally decided to drink it then it was just a shining star. 2007 is for me the most mystified and most seductive wine so appealing, drinkable and atypical wine and the biggest surprise in 2007…. (I simply love this wine……and when a friend offered me some more bottles I was smiling the entire day)….
What then about the 2008? Hmm…. We had it when we visited Keller this summer, but after all the dry wines and after G-MAX 2008…. So that day it simply didn’t meet my expectation at least not compared to 2007 (my mistake – I asked Klaus Peter to get it after the G-max 2008)…. but what white wine will not be difficult after G-MAX 2008??….. so I open the wine and followed it over a week....

So this is how it went.....here is the TN:

The wine was followed over a week – it is always nice to do such academic stun and se how brilliant dry Riesling evolves (both with time and temp)The fist couple of days the noise shows tones of citrus, white pear, limestone and gunpowder, however the noise change like a chameleon and gets this nice seductive traces of mature peach combined with pear and limestone.Refreshing tingling on the tongue (I think driven by the acid)….and one really feels the nice elegant structure and composition. In the primary impression very mineral with sweet yellow citrus fruit and weak apricots notes…. Medium length and complexity (but much more straight compared to the 2007 version), but also with a focus dense base in the secondary layer having notes from the limestone. The finish is crispy and mineral with bitter pectin tones and really balanced by the ’08 juicy acidity. Although it does not have the mystified atypical touch as the 2007 version it is coming insidious over time and I really just wants to drink, drink, drink the wine….. Guzzle wine when it is best. Decant the wine (or maybe just open it 3-4 days up front) and serve it a little to the cold side, then the wine is singing. “Von der fels” with a little more potential over time…

16.5+/20
