This is actually the first wine I taste from 2008 and for this estate it raises my expectation for the vintage. After natures gift to us in 2007 – 2008 has been a much more challenge year. It was a struggle to get perfect ripeness of the grapes during this very cold year (especially autumn) so only people with nerves and balls of steel had the courage to wait for this and succeed. Therefore in general I think that the quality of wines from this vintage will vary a lot compared to last year. The estates that had the guts to wait for the ripeness of the grapes combined with low yield have made brilliant complex wines (as a result of the VERY long vegetation period) whereas one can really expect bad and boned wines this vintage as well from estates that has not shown courage. As an example on how late people had to harvest - Keller Harvest there last grape for their dry wines first the 20 of November.
The wine was followed over 10 days.During the development over the time the smell kept a really beautiful seductive and compelling touch, so appealing with mainly peachy and tropical nuances but supported by and smoky flinty tones underneath in the secondary layer. The primary fruit taste in the wine shows creamy pectin bitterness and citrus fruit combined a touch of limestone. This is supported by the really juicy lazer acidity that projects the wine into the brain leaving reserve non-sweet impression. I think compared to the last couple of vintage this basic wine has much more depth with just a smoky, herbal tones and a touch of tobacco in the finish. Linear in its development in the mouth and a little short in the finish, but that’s really supports the refresness. This will be a wine I am going to enjoy during the entire spring and summer in the garden for fish barbeques. Damm….. I miss spring and summer - this wine reminds me of it.
16.0/20 (but remember the price of this wine is below 10 euro!!!!!!!)
